A significant number of employees on dairy farms in the southeast are Hispanic and speak little or no English. As a consequence, training programs, such as the Dairy Herdsman Seminar and Cow Colleges, in Spanish were proposed. Programs in the areas of reproduction, udder health and milk quality, replacement rearing, and hospital barn management were requested. We anticipate conducting reproduction programs on: (1) “Artificial Insemination Techniques”, (2) “Detection and Management of Open Cows” (3) “Management of Obstetrics and Problems Associated with Calving”, and (4) “Management of Cows during Transition and the Early Postpartum Period” as high priority programs. Select Sires will lead the AI training course assisted by UF faculty. Future programs will be led by UF faculty and various invited speakers. Each of the training programs is intended to be highly focused with emphasis on the “hands-on” training aspects.

Participants must wear protective clothing during the hands on training at the farms (coveralls and boots).
